Simone Arnold-Liebster awarded Order of Merit in Germany

Simone Arnold-Liebster, whose story I told in the award winning documentary The Schoolgirl the Nazis and the Purple Triangles has been awarded The Order Of Merit Of The Federal Republic Of Germany by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has awarded Simone Arnold-Liebster the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany as a token of gratitude for her commitment to preserving and passing on the memory of the tyranny of the National Socialists. The award rightly recognizes her remarkable commitment.

The insignia will be presented by the German Consul General, Mr. Thomas Pröpstl, on 15.12.2023 during a ceremony at the Château de Candie, F-73000 Chambery.

Simone Maria (Arnold) Liebster (born 17 August 1930) is a French woman who was a victim of Nazi persecution during World War II as a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Simone was also notable as the author of a book called Facing the lion—memoirs of a young girl In Nazi Europe in which she wrote about her experiences at the hands of the Nazis.
